ICFM5

The 5th International Conference on Flood Management ( ICFM5) will be held in Japan in 2011. The ICFM5 will be hosted by the IFI Secretariat at International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) under the auspices of UNESCO, supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan. 

Background: The ICFM5 is the subsequent of the past four successful International Symposiums on Flood Defence (ISFD). The first one was held in Kassel, Germany in September 2000. The 2nd ISFD was held in Beijing, China in September 2002, followed by the 3rd ISFD in Nijmegen, Netherlands in May 2005. The ISFD4 was held in Toronto, Canada in May 2008. T he International Conference on Flood Management (ICFM) is the new title of the International Symposiums on Flood Defence (ISFD). This is the only international conference fully focused on flood issues so far, and it is the best place to share your research result, experiences and achievements in flood management with other researchers, engineers and policy makers.

Place:  Tsukuba Science City, Japan

Tsukuba City is about 50 km (31 miles) northeast of Tokyo and 40 km (25 miles) northwest of the Tokyo International Airport in Narita. It covers an area of 28,000 ha (112 square miles) with a population of about 200,000. Seen from one angle, Tsukuba city, with its streets of traditional stores and houses, has the look of a rural refuge of abundant greenery. Seen from another angle, it is Tsukuba Science City, a superb modern urban landscape seldom seen in all Japanese cities.
